He spent his early years in Fortose on the Black Isle, While there he attended Primary schools in Fortrose and Avoch. In 1975 he moved with the family, to Broughty Ferry, Dundee. He finished his Primary education at Forthill Primary School before moving on to complete his Secondary education at Grove Academy. After leaving school he gained a place at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh where he gained a B.Sc. in Physics. Unable to find employment he went on to gain an M.Sc. at Napier College, Edinburgh. As he was still unable to find permanent employment he did occasional, computer related, contract work for Sky Television. Alastair died suddenly on 8th May 2000 following a severe asthma attack.
